Enter Client InformationBefore generating either a product comparison or a single product printout, you must enter the information about your client. This is done using the first option on the Compulife Quotation System master menu (red menu that appears when you begin the program). How to BeginNOTE: Please print this instructional and have it with you as you run the Compulife program. To enter client information, click on "Enter Client Information" at the top of the red "Compulife Quotation System" master menu. ![]() Tip: You can be anywhere in the Compulife Quotation system and pressing the F1 function key will also display the "Enter Client Information" window. Function keys, such as F1, are shortcuts to Master Menu choices. F1 corresponds to the first choice on the Master menu, F2 to the second choice, etc. Most of fields on the Client Entry windows already contain information. This represents either the default parameters that came with your system or information that is automatically remembered from the last client entered. This allows you to continue working on the same client without having to re-enter his or her information. In either case, to enter a new client simply enter the new information in place of the existing information. NOTE: An interface file (CLIENT.INI) may be created to exchange client data from a database to the Compulife Quotation System. When the Compulife program is started, it automatically searches for the existense of a "CLIENT.INI" file. If that file is found, the program will read the client information from the file and then delete it. Alternately, if the CLIENT.INI file is created with the Compulife program already running, you can read the CLIENT.INI file by pressing F1. Two samples of the CLIENT.INI file are provided with the comparison program. CLDOC.INI contains more instructions on the format and structure of the file. Cursor movementIn addition to clicking on the field that you wish to edit/change, you can use the TAB key to move the cursor from field to field. With the cursor on the field that you want, the right and left keys will change radio button selections. If the field contains a value, such as the face amount, you can change the contents of the field by using the numbers on your key board. If you are on the Client Name field or the Agent Name field, simply use the keyboard to change the client name. If your cursor lands on the F9 Birthdate button, or the OK button, the ENTER key will execute that selection. To close the Enter Client Information window, you can click on the X in the top right hand corner of the window, or you can click on the OK button in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, or you can press your ESCape key on you keyboard. Any of these will close the window and return you to the Compulife Quotation System master menu. Client entry fieldsUsing the cursor movement outlined on the previous page, enter the following information: Face AmountYou can click the mouse pointer on the grey down button located to the right of the face amount currently entered. This will display a list of default face amounts that you can select. If the face amount you want is not on the list, click on a face amount close to what you want. To manually change the face amount, click on the face amount itself. This will place the cursor in the face amount and allow you to edit the value. To insert a different number, type the number. To remove numbers that you do not want, use the DELete key. NOTE: If your client's primary goal is to provide his or her dependents with a replacement income upon his or her death, you may use the program's Income Replacement Calculator to determine the amount of insurance required. You can display the Income Replacement calculator by pressing the F7 key. Alternately, you can select the option by pressing "Income from Capital Analysis" at the red master menu. SexClick on Male or Female. In states that require unisex rates, such as Montana, the program will automatically select the unisex rates regardless of the sex that you have selected here. SmokerClick on Smoker or Non-Smoker. Important NOTE: Compulife defines a smoker as an individual who has smoked (marijuana included) or who has used tobacco products (pipes, cigars, chewing tobacco included). We realize that non-smoking/smoking can be a more complicated issue than this simple definition. For example, is the smoker who has quit smoking considered a non-smoker? That varies from life insurance company to company. Some require a year of non- smoking, some require five years. It may vary within the same company, depending on the criteria used for different classes or rates, such as preferred and non-preferred. We also realize that some companies will accept pipe or cigar smokers as non-smokers. The point is that when confronted by these exceptions to the standard (a smoker is a person who has smoked or who has used tobacco in any form), you must consult with the specific life company to determine what categories of insurance are available. PreferredYou can click on Regular or Preferred. In addition, you can check Plus or you can leave it unchecked. This combination of values results in four possible classes of health. These are P+, Pf, R+, and Rg. Those short form indicators will be displayed next to premiums to help you determine the underwriting (health and lifestyle) criteria that Compulife believes your client will need to satisfy in order to qualify for the premium shown. P+ - indicates a rate for an individual in very preferred (preferred plus) health. A company offering a P+ premium also offers a preferred (Pf) and a regular (Rg) health premium. Pf premiums are less difficult to qualify for. Rg premiums are much less difficult to qualify for. Pf - indicates a rate for an individual in preferred health. A company offering a Pf premium also offers a regular (Rg) health premium. Rg premiums are less difficult to qualify for. R+ - indicates a rate for an individual in somewhat better health than regular (Rg), but not what the life insurance industry typically terms "preferred health". A company offering an R+ premium also offers a regular (Rg) health premium. Rg premiums are less difficult to qualify for. Rg - indicates a rate for a person in normal health who does not have any medical or lifestyle condition which would increase their future risk of dying. Example: A person who has moderately elevated blood pressure may not qualify for P+, Pf or R+ premium rates, but they might qualify for Rg. A private pilot may not qualify for P+ or Pf premiums, but might qualify for R+ or Rg rates. You will need to speak to the company or an insurance agent for more details. Premiums quoted for smokers already take into account that the insured person smokes and therefore has a greater risk of death than a non-smokers. Premiums offered to smokers are already higher than those for non-smokers. NOTE: The preferred category you assign to your client will determine the lowest rate that the system will quote. However, any premiums higher than that class, will also be quoted. For example, if you enter your client as "preferred plus" your comparison results will include all four categories of P+, Pf, R+ and Rg. If you enter your client as "preferred" (NOT PLUS), then P+ premiums will NOT be included. Your comparison results will include the three categories of Pf, R+ and Rg. If you enter your client as "regular plus", then P+ and Pf premiums will NOT be included. Your comparison results will include the two categories of R+ and Rg. And finally, if you enter your client as "regular" (NOT PLUS), then P+, Pf and Rg premiums will NOT be included. Your comparison results will include only the category Rg. Client nameThis will be your client's name as you want it to appear in all your comparison and quotation printouts. NOTE: To insert text at the cursor, press the Insert key. This will allow you to insert text. To delete a character, place cursor on it and press the DELete key. Birthdate![]() Clicking on this button will permit you to enter your client's birthdate. When the birthdate is entered, the client's actual and nearest age will be calculated using the current date (should be today's date) of your computer. The quickest way to enter the birthdate for the client is to enter the six digit, numeric value for the birthdate. For example, December 7, 1941 would be 120741. Enter in those six numbers and press the ENTER key. The window will close and the Actual Age and Nearest Age will be calculated and displayed in their respective fields. Alternately, using the mouse, you can select the date. Begin by selecting the year. Next, click the mouse on the month tab at the bottom of the calendar. Finally, click on the correct day on the calendar. Finally, click the OK button in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. The window will close and the Actual Age and Nearest Age will be calculated and displayed in their respective fields. Actual ageTo enter your client's actual you can click on the age field and enter your client's age using the numeric pad. Alternatively, you can roll the age up or down using the up and down "spinner" buttons to the right of the age. Nearest AgeThe actual age (or age last birthday) is the age most people typically associate with a person's age. For example, if you are 45 and will be celebrating your birthday tomorrow, most would not consider you 46 until the day of your birthday. However, some life companies base the age for their insurance policies on the age that you are closest to. For example, if you are 45, but your 46th birthday is three months in the future, then you are considered by some companies to be nearest age 46 and that is the age used by the company. To enter that example into the system, the actual age would be 45, the nearest age is 46. When the comparison system is run, the correct age (actual or nearnest) will be used based upon what each company's product requires. NOTE: If the birthdate option was used to determine actual age, nearest age was also calculated at that time. Client TabsNOTE: Any individual comparison or single product quotations are always based upon client number one. The system allows the entry of up to five clients. This is NOT a client database. One of the options for quoting products is the ability to quote total premiums for multiple lives. Some companies provide policy fee or banding discounts to bulk purchases on multiple related lives (such as a husband and wife). If you are quoting two lives, put the first person into Tab 1, and the second person into Tab 2. The program will currently generate a multiple-life comparison/printout for up to two lives only. The ability to include up to five lives will be added in the near future. NOTE: To exchange client one with client two, you can press F8 or click on the "F8 Switch Client" button. A window appears permitting client one to be switched to client 2 through 5. Click on the number (2-5) of the client to be exchanged with the first client. The screen now contains that client's information and he or she becomes client 1. Agent nameNOTE: If your system is for personal use (one agent), the agent name automatically appears and cannot be altered. If your system is an agency version (permit use by an agency to produce quotes for multiple agents), enter the agent name as it is to appear on printouts. The cursor movement keys outlined for Client name are also available with Agent name. StateClick on the state field to display a list of states. Click on the state that the client will be purchasing the insurance in. Product surveys generated for this client will only include products available in the specified state. If you attempt to quote an individual product not available for sale in that state, the system will warn you and not quote the product. NOTE: To include all products, regardless of their state availability, select the word "ALL" which is found at the top of the list. This will quote products from all states. New York state offers two possible selections. One is NY(B) and the other is NY(NB). B signifies "business" and NB signifies "non-business". The state has rules that can vary the issue and renewal ages available to individual purchases of insurance by comparison to purchases by corporations. For for more information about that, please consult with the life company that you are selling in New York. Best RatingClicking on the "Best Rating" will display a list of A.M. Best ratings. Selecting a rating determines the minimum A.M. Best Rating which a company must have to be included in your comparisons or quotations. For example, if you enter a minimum A.M. Best rating of "A Excellent", then companies with an A.M. Best rating of A- or less will be dropped from you comparisons and quotations. Only companies with an A++, A+ or A rating would be included. IMPORTANT: Best Ratings reflect A.M. Best's opinion of a company's financial strength and ability to meet obligations to policyholders. For full information about A.M. Best ratings, please refer to the A.M. Best website. NOTE: To include all products, regardless of their Best Rating, select "Quote all with Best Rating". All products will be included in comparisons and quotations, together with their A.M. Best Ratings. To eliminate Best Ratings from your comparisons and quotations, simply select "Quote all companies". All products will be compared or quoted without their A.M. Best Ratings. Best CategoryThis field works in conjunction with the Best Rating field. As explained above, surveys will only include products from companies which meet or exceed the specified Best Rating. The Financial Size Category further qualifies that group by including only companies which also meet or exceed the specified Financial Size Category. A.M. Best's Financial Size Category reflects reported policyholders surplus plus conditional reserve funds (in $millions). For full information about A.M. Best Financial size categories, please refer to the A.M. Best website. Product surveys will only include products from companies which meet or exceed both the specified Best Rating and the specified Best Category. NOTE: To include all products, regardless of their company's Financial Size Category, click on "Quote all with Best category". All products will be included and the Financial Size Categories will be illustrated. To eliminate Best Financial Size categories from your comparisons and quotations, simply select "Quote all companies". All products will be compared or quoted without their A.M. Best Financial Size Category being displayed. The A.M. Best rating will still appear. Quoting productsAfter entering client information, you may generate a product comparison by pressing the F3 funnction or quote a single product printout for a single company by pressing the F2 function key.
